We get it, sometimes there’s no money.
But you can’t always work for free.
You’re a business, not a charity.
Here’s what to say when a potential client has no (or a tiny) budget:
Option One – How about a template or DIY course?
Thanks for getting in touch, I am happy to hear you like my work. Unfortunately, my prices start above your budget and I'm unable to discount. At this stage in your business I would recommend this ECOURSE [link] or even using a pre-made website template like the ones at SHOP NAME [link].
When your business has grown a bit and you're able to invest in a custom design, get in touch! I'd love to work with you.
Option Two – How about I do it pro-bono?
Thanks for getting in touch, I would actually love to gift you a website. I am amazed by what you do and want to help you spread your message and get visibility!
I am attaching an outline of what I am able to offer you, and the value I would normally price it at. I am happy to include everything on this list for free, but do note that requests outside of this list are not included. If we get to that point, I will quote you for any extras.
To accept what I've outlined, simply reply to this email by ____ so I can write up a contract and get you on my schedule.
Note: Don’t have a contract? Check out these options! As a heads up, this list includes affiliate links, but we have used and love these templates ourselves!
